Clearing The Home
The First Commandment requires us to belong to God alone:
“You shall have no other gods before Me.” (Exodus 20:3)
When we allow objects tied and devoted to other gods, false spiritual systems, the occult, or impurity into our living spaces, we unintentionally grant spiritual territory to the Enemy.
A. Why Objects Matter Spiritually
Sacramentals (holy water, blessed images, crucifixes) invite grace. Occult or spiritually compromised objects, on the other hand, can invite oppression, fear, unrest, division, temptations, or disturbances, because:
1. They represent spiritual systems opposed to God;
2. They are used for invoking powers not of the Holy Spirit;
3. They proclaim beliefs contrary to Christ;
4. They become “doorways” for demonic presence.
Scripture repeatedly warns against this:
“Do not bring an abomination into your house, lest you be devoted to destruction.” (Deuteronomy 7:26)
“What agreement has the temple of God with idols?” (2 Corinthians 6:16)
“Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness.” (Ephesians 5:11)
Early Christians destroyed items tied to magic, occult practices, and false worship:
“They brought their magic books together and burned them… and the word of the Lord grew and prevailed.” (Acts 19:19–20)
This is the scriptural foundation of cleansing a home.

B. COMMON OCCULT OR SPIRITUALLY HARMFUL ITEMS TO REMOVE
These items often enter a home innocently: inherited from relatives, given as gifts, bought as decorations, or collected without knowing their meaning.
The issue is not superstition: the issue is spiritual alignment.
The following objects should be removed, destroyed, or discarded:
+++
1. Statues and Images Associated with Other Gods
- Buddha
- Hindu gods (Ganesha, Lakshmi, Shiva, Vishnu)
- Feng shui gods of wealth, fortune, or protection
- Taoist and Shinto deities
- Tribal or pagan idols
“You shall not make for yourself an idol… You shall not bow down to them or serve them.” (Exodus 20:4–5)
+++
- tarot cards
- oracle or angel cards
- pendulums
- Ouija boards
- runes for divination
- spellbooks
- manifestation kits
- sage, used for “spirit cleansing”
- law of attraction manuals
- reiki symbols
- crystals used for energy healing, chakra balancing, or manifestation
- dreamcatchers
- “evil eye” nazar charms
- feng shui coins- lucky cats (maneki-neko)
- jade “good luck” rings and bracelets
- fortune toads
- bracelets and charms like “piyaw,” red-string “protection” bracelets, etc.
- zodiac charms used for guidance
These promote trust in objects rather than God.
“Cursed is the man who trusts in man… Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord.” (Jeremiah 17:5, 7)
Anything that promotes impurity must be removed.
“For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from immorality.” (1 Thessalonians 4:3)
Pornography brings:
- lust
- addiction
- shame
- spiritual darkness into the home
It must be completely purged.
- occult manuals
- New Age teachings
- witchcraft, wiccan, or paganism
- spirit guide or channeling books
- Eastern religious devotion books used as spiritual authority
- sorcery or magic
- esoteric teachings
- fortune-telling
Remove anything that replaces Christ’s authority.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” (Colossians 3:16)
II. INVOKING SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL TO CLEANSE THE HOME OF EVIL INFLUENCE
After removing spiritually harmful items, the home must be spiritually cleared. For that we turn to The Archangel, Saint Michael. He is the Church’s defender against demonic forces.
“Michael and his angels fought against the dragon… and the great dragon was thrown down.” (Revelation 12:7–9)
He is Heaven’s warrior against darkness.
Prayer of Deliverance for the Home
"Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen."
Walk room to room, sprinkling holy water if possible, while praying the Saint Michael Prayer.
Then invoke Christ’s authority:
“In the Name of Jesus, I command every unclean spirit to depart this home, and I consecrate this place to the glory of God alone.” (Mark 16:17)
This step closes every spiritual doorway opened by occult objects.
III. CONSECRATING AND ENTRUSTING THE HOME TO SAINT JOSEPH - Guardian, Protector, and Terror of Demons
Once harmful items are removed and the home is spiritually cleansed, the next step is to fill the home with God’s protection.
The Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph protected Jesus from Herod, danger, false gods, demonic attack, and spiritual threats. Saint Joseph has been entrusted by the Church with these titles:
🔥 Guardian of the Holy Family
🔥 Patron of the Universal Church
🔥 Protector of the Domestic Church (your family)
🔥 Terror of Demons
Pope Leo XIII teaches:
St. Joseph was truly the guardian of the family…He is in a special way the defender of the Church.”
A. A Prayer of Entrustment to Saint Joseph
"Glorious Saint Joseph, Guardian and Protector of the Holy Family, I entrust my home and everyone in it to your fatherly care.
Stand at the door of this house as you once protected Jesus and Mary.
Guard us from every evil influence, every deception of the enemy, every spirit of division, impurity, or fear.
O Terror of Demons, chase away all darkness from this place and surround us with your protection.
May this home be filled with peace, purity, faith, hope, and charity. Saint Joseph, Protector of Families, pray for us.
Amen."
B. A Simple Rite of Entrustment for the Home
(Add near your prayer corner or family altar)
1. Place an image or statue of St. Joseph.
2. Light a candle (blessed, if possible).
3. Read a Scripture passage:
Matthew 1:20–24 or Matthew 2:13–15
4. Pray the Entrustment Prayer above.
5. Sprinkle holy water in each room, saying:
“Saint Joseph, guard our home as you guarded the home of Nazareth.”
CONCLUSION
The progression is simple, powerful, and fully Catholic/Christian:
1. PURGE — Remove objects contrary to God
2. PROTECT — Invoke Saint Michael to drive out evil
3. CONSECRATE — Entrust the home to Saint Joseph
Where idols are destroyed, Christ reigns.
Where the demonic is cast out, the Holy Spirit enters.
Where the home is entrusted to Saint Joseph, the peace of the Holy Family rests upon it.
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)
