HELL IS IN CHARGE
WHEN HELL MAKES THE LAWS:
A Catholic Warning to a World That Overturns Natural Law
---
> “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.”
— Isaiah 5:20
---
π₯ INTRODUCTION:
A WORLD UPSIDE DOWN
What happens when a nation—no, the whole world—decides that good is evil and evil is good, and enshrines this reversal into law?
What happens when civil authorities do not merely ignore the law written on the human heart, but deliberately and systematically overturn it?
This is not just political drift or moral confusion.
From a Catholic perspective, it is the declaration of war against God's order.
In this world, the natural law—God’s moral blueprint inscribed in creation and the human conscience—is thrown out in favor of man-made doctrines rooted in sin, power, and rebellion.
The result? Civil law becomes the machinery of moral collapse.
This article offers a deep Catholic reflection on such a global apostasy:
What it would mean, how it would affect every area of life, and how the faithful must resist it—no matter the cost.

⚖️ SECTION I: WHAT IS NATURAL LAW, AND WHY IT MATTERS
✛ 1. The Voice of God Within
Natural law is God’s moral law, accessible to all through reason. It’s what St. Paul meant when he wrote:
> “They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness.”
— Romans 2:15
It’s why murder, theft, lying, and adultery are universally recognized as wrong, even in cultures that have never read the Bible.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines natural law as:
> “The light of understanding placed in us by God, whereby we know what must be done and what must be avoided” (CCC #1955).
Natural law is not “Catholic rules.” It is human moral logic grounded in divine truth.
✛ 2. Its Role in Society
All just civil law is meant to be an application of natural law to specific societies.
St. Thomas Aquinas teaches:
> “Human law has the nature of law in so far as it is in accordance with right reason; and in this respect it is evident that it flows from the eternal law.”
— Summa Theologica, I–II, q. 93
Without this grounding, law becomes mere force.
---
π¨ SECTION II: WHAT IF NATURAL LAW IS SYSTEMATICALLY OVERTHROWN?
Let us imagine a world where civil law everywhere reverses the moral order:
▪︎Good is criminalized.
▪︎Evil is rewarded.
▪︎Moral formation is forbidden.
▪︎Conscience is crushed.
π 1. The Legal Inversion
In such a regime, we would see laws that:
Mandate participation in abortion, euthanasia, or gender reassignment.
Redefine marriage to mean anything—or nothing at all.
Criminalize religious formation of children as “indoctrination.”
Outlaw acts of mercy not licensed by the state.
Force churches to accept blasphemous or heretical practices under the banner of “equality.”
These are not hypotheticals. Many are already real in parts of the world.
> “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work…”
— 2 Thessalonians 2:7
⚠️ 2. The Collapse of Civil Authority
Civil authority is legitimate only when it serves the common good in accordance with moral truth (cf. CCC #1903).
When law opposes natural law:
▪︎Legitimacy vanishes.
▪︎Tyranny begins.
▪︎The State becomes the persecutor of the just (see Daniel 3, the story of the fiery furnace).
---
π§ SECTION III: WHAT HAPPENS TO THE HUMAN PERSON?
π 1. The Silencing of Conscience
When law requires evil, every person is forced to choose:
Obey Caesar or obey God? (Acts 5:29)
In such a world:
Christian doctors are forced to assist in killing.
Teachers are forced to lie to children about sex and identity.
Employers must enforce speech codes that deny truth.
Examples:
In Canada and parts of Europe, pro-life speech is increasingly criminalized.
In some U.S. states, Christian business owners have been fined or closed for refusing to participate in same-sex wedding events.
The Church teaches that:
> “A human being must always obey the certain judgment of his conscience” (CCC #1790).
π§ 2. Deformation of the Soul
If law trains us to deny moral truths, it corrupts the conscience.
Over time:
▪︎Vice is normalized.
▪︎Virtue is shamed.
▪︎The soul becomes dull, apathetic, or resentful toward God.
This is spiritual death in slow motion.
> “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator.”
— Romans 1:25
---
π¨π©π§ SECTION IV: WHAT HAPPENS TO SOCIETY?
π 1. The Destruction of the Family
The family is the first institution of natural law (Genesis 1:27–28).
When civil law redefines or dismantles the family:
Parenthood becomes a state-assigned role.
Children become wards of ideology.
Marriage becomes meaningless, and fertility collapses.
Example: In some countries, it is illegal to object to government sex education even when it contradicts Christian values. Parents have been jailed or fined for resisting.
π 2. The Capturing of Education and Culture
Without natural law, education becomes indoctrination.
The curriculum teaches:
▪︎Truth is relative.
▪︎The body is irrelevant to identity.
▪︎Freedom means doing whatever you desire.
In art, film, and media: the heroic is mocked, the sacred is desecrated, and the vulgar is glorified.
> “They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin… They speak arrogant words of vanity and entice… those barely escaping from error.”
— 2 Peter 2:14,18
π₯ 3. The End of Mercy
Charity becomes regulated or banned.
Feeding the homeless becomes a permit violation.
Unlicensed evangelization is labeled hate speech.
Public witness of faith is fined or prosecuted.
Yet Christ said:
> “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink… As you did it to the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.”
— Matthew 25:35–40
---
✝️ SECTION V: HOW MUST THE CHURCH RESPOND?
π― 1. Catechesis and Formation
Before persecution comes, the Church must:
Form consciences in natural law and moral courage.
Teach young people how to resist indoctrination.
Uphold the truth in schools, families, and parishes.
π 2. Public Witness and Suffering
Christians must be ready to suffer joyfully for the truth.
> “Do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you… But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ.”
— 1 Peter 4:12–13
Examples:
Underground Masses in China.
Catholic priests in Nazi Germany preaching against eugenics.
Parents in totalitarian regimes risking prison to pass on the Faith.
π 3. Prayer and the Communion of Saints
Even when law and society collapse, God remains sovereign.
We must turn to the Eucharist, Adoration, and intercession of the saints.
We must remember the victory is already won through the Cross.
---
π CONCLUSION:
THE FINAL WORD IS GOD’S
If civil law everywhere overturns natural law, the world becomes hostile territory for the Gospel. But it has always been so.
> “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
— John 16:33
In such a time, Christians must not conform, but transform (Romans 12:2).
The cost may be social exile, persecution, or even martyrdom—but the prize is eternal life and fidelity to the Truth.
Natural law is not optional. It is God’s handwriting in creation. To erase it is to invite chaos.
But to defend it, even at great cost, is to become the salt and light that may yet preserve the world.
